I have been a post-doctoral fellow in the Frieman lab since 2016. My research interests center on the interaction between viruses and their hosts. I developed a yeast-based screening system to investigate these interactions, from which we have identified novel factors involved in replication of coronaviruses and influenza. Currently we are working on the development of broad-spectrum antiviral chemicals that target the mammalian SKI complex. This host factor was found through our yeast-based system and chemicals that disrupt the complex inhibit replication of influenza, coronaviruses and the filoviruses Ebola and Marburg.
Louis's research focuses on studying virus biology and pathogenesis through the integration of computational and molecular techniques. He completed his Ph.D. in Frederic Bushman's lab at the University of Pennsylvania studying redondoviruses, a new virus family found in the human oro-respiratory tract. Louis joined the Frieman Lab in the summer of 2021 as a postdoctoral fellow.
Jeremy Ardanuy received his Ph.D in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Maryland Baltimore under the mentorship of Dr. Nicholas Carbonetti. His work revolved around host pathogen interactions between Bordetella pertussis and the human immune system. His projects focused on age dependent inflammatory signaling mechanisms with a focus on Interferon signaling pathways as therapeutic targets for the treatment of whooping cough. Jeremy joined the Frieman lab in August 2021 as a post-doctoral fellow.
Carly completed her PhD in the Frieman lab in 2012 and then spent 8 years at Johns Hopkins University in the Department of Dermatology as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Project Administrator before rejoining the group as a Research Program Manager in 2020.
Lauren is currently a full time undergraduate student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has been assisting in various projects for two years.
Meagan received her MD & PhD at the University of North Carolina, studying SARS-coronavirus vaccine strategies and antibody neutralization with Dr. Ralph Baric. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Disease fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 2015-2021, including a CVD T32 Vaccinology Research fellowship. Currently an instructor at the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health, she is the PI on a IDCRC New Investigator Pilot Award studying seasonal coronavirus immunity and SARS-CoV-2 immune responses.
Lian is a current graduate student at University of Maryland Baltimore County.
